Curious about what it's like to start your own game studio? GamesBeat had that very same question in mind and invited our CEO and studio founder Glen Schofield to speak on his learning lessons from the experience. Glen was joined by Emily Greer (Double Loop Games), James Dobrowski (Sharkmob London), Jonathan Singer (Akamai), and GamesBeat lead writer Dean Takahasi lead the panel. Dean sought to get tips for starting a studio, what you should watch out for when building up a team, and the best way to approach technical decisions as the studio grows.
One key takeaway Glen shared was how one of his main focuses while creating Striking Distance Studio was establishing the studio's C-team first. After securing our COO, CFO, and Chief Development Officer, he then brought on our CTO.
“It was important on many levels that we bring on our chief technical officer as soon as possible," Schofield stated. "We also like to have that synergy between tech and creative. Our CTO is also a very creative person, who brings another type of thought process to the creative part.”
